About the Journal
|
The Geocompute Engineering Review (GCER) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to publishing pioneering research at the dynamic intersection of geotechnical engineering, computational geosciences, spatial data analytics, and earth systems modeling. Positioned as a premier scholarly forum for advancing the mathematical and algorithmic tools used to understand and engineer the subsurface environment, the journal serves geotechnical engineers, hydrogeologists, GIS specialists, computational geoscientists, and civil infrastructure researchers worldwide. GCER prioritizes high-impact empirical studies, advanced numerical modeling (e.g., FEM, DEM), geospatial big data applications, and geotechnical software innovations. By synthesizing foundational principles of soil and rock mechanics with contemporary paradigms of artificial intelligence, remote sensing, and geostatistical modeling, the journal fosters a deep, comprehensive understanding of how computational engineering can solve complex geo-environmental challenges and ensure the resilience of built infrastructures.
Scope and Topics
Reflecting its mandate to advance computational approaches in geo-engineering, the journal welcomes high-quality original research articles, systematic literature reviews, computational case studies, and methodological innovations within the following thematic areas:
Computational Geomechanics & Numerical Modeling: Advanced numerical methods (Finite Element Method, Discrete Element Method, Finite Difference Method) for soil-structure interaction; rock mechanics and tunneling; slope stability analysis; and deep excavation modeling.
Geo-Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning: Application of AI, machine learning, and deep learning algorithms in geotechnical site characterization; predictive modeling of geological hazards (landslides, earthquakes, subsidence); and automated interpretation of geophysical data.
Geospatial Informatics & Remote Sensing: Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing (LiDAR, InSAR) for infrastructure monitoring; spatial data infrastructure (SDI); 3D geological modeling; and geostatistical analysis of spatial variability.
Hydrogeology & Geo-environmental Engineering: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling; multiphase flow in porous media; geothermal energy systems engineering; and computational assessment of geo-environmental remediation.
Smart Infrastructure & Geotechnical Data Management: Integration of Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in geotechnical health monitoring; digital twins of subsurface infrastructure; Building Information Modeling (BIM) for geotechnical engineering (GeoBIM); and management of geotechnical big data.
Publication Frequency
To ensure rigorous editorial oversight, thorough peer review, and the timely dissemination of advanced geo-computational research, GCER is published semi-annually (2 issues per year, typically scheduled for release in June and December). Special thematic issues focusing on machine learning in landslide prediction, the development of geotechnical digital twins, or computational advances in deep tunneling may be commissioned by the Editorial Board.
Peer Review Process
GCER enforces a strict double-blind peer review policy to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity, analytical objectivity, and scientific validity across computational geosciences and engineering disciplines.
The mission of the Geocompute Engineering Review (GCER) is to advance global geo-engineering scholarship by publishing rigorous, evidence-based research that bridges advanced computational sciences with the physical realities of the Earth's subsurface. Grounded in the philosophy that the safe and sustainable development of modern infrastructure requires unprecedented precision in modeling and data analysis, the journal aims to democratize geocomputational knowledge by providing an unrestricted platform for global academic, engineering, and technological dialogue. Through the promotion of diverse, rigorous computational, geospatial, and numerical methodologies, GCER seeks to empower geotechnical engineers, inspire software innovators, and shape resilient, data-driven geo-infrastructure systems worldwide.
